PREPPING FOR a SUBMENTAL (under Jaw) SUCTION LIPECTOMY

A neck lift, also known as a submental lipectomy, is a surgical procedure that removes localized fat deposits under the chin, corrects muscle laxity, tightens sagging skin or enhances a receding chin.

Dr. Drew here, we're in the fourth phase of this surgery, we already done a brow lift. We took a neoplasm off of the lateral right nose, we did a lip lift to give her more show of her vermilion border, give her a little more of an upturn of her peaks of her cupid bow. Looks very nice and quite balanced and symmetrical. Now I've used an old scar under her chin, but normally we put this a little lower and I am going to do some lipo to define her jawline and a little bit of hanging fat she has here when she leans forward.

So I am now doing some pre-tunneling. Pre-tunneling is just creating little pathways for the cannula to go. After the pre-tunneling, I'm going to inject what we call superwet solution. Superwet solution is a mixture of salt water that's sterile, obviously, epinephrine, which is a vasoconstrictor which causes hemostasis, or bleeding control, and also lidocaine, which is a local anesthetic. So it has multiple effects by injecting this solution and it makes the cannulas glide very easily through this tissue. Obviously, we're very delicate with these areas, we know the anatomy and where not to get into trouble or hit nerves.

In a minute I'm going to start the infiltration, and after the infiltration, we'll actually do the liposuction.
