About Breast Implant Revision
Breast augmentation surgery is very popular with women in the United States and around the world. Millions of women each year have implants surgically placed with in their breasts, and love their results. However, sometimes a breast implant revision surgery is needed after the initial surgery to correct medical or cosmetic issues with the implant. We will perform your breast revision surgery even if we did not perform the original surgery. Your health and happiness are important to us. You may want to consult with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons if you are experiencing:
- Deformities, rippling, dimpling, or ruptures in one or both implants
- Implants have shifted from their original position since being surgically placed
- Dissatisfaction with the size of your breasts (too large or not enhanced enough)
- Excessive scar tissue that feels hard under your skin or if you can feel the edges of the implant
Keep in mind that your breast implants will need to be exchanged or removed in 10 – 15 years after your first augmentation surgery. Revision surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure with surgical techniques much like the first surgery. We also offer our revision services to women who just no longer wish to have their implants. We want to hear your concerns about your breast appearance in a private consultation at Inspire Aesthetics.
"BREAST RECONSTRUCTION WITH IMPLANTS - HE HAS A GREAT BEDSIDE MANNOR....SEEMS CARING....AND ATTAINED RESULTS BEYOND MY EXPECTATIONS!"- Anonymous / Vitals / Sep 05, 2008
"This facility gets 10 stars from me!! My first experience with Inspire was for a pretty extensive cosmetic procedure that I was beyond nervous about- breast lift, reduction, and augmentation. At the age of only 29, my breasts were in very bad shape after losing a great deal of weight. However, Dr. Drew absolutely NAILED it!! I could not be happier with the outcome and am incredibly grateful for not only his expertise, but for how kind and supportive the entire staff was towards me throughout the process. If you are looking for an honest group of doctors to help improve yourself, this is the facility to check out! You will understand the second you walk in :)"- C.P. / Google / Jul 21, 2020
"Absolutely perfect place to transform into the healthier you. I had the privilege of being at my best friends side during her breast cancer journey. After beating cancer, it was Dr Goodwin’s job to make her feel beautiful again...which is not easy after all chemo and surgery do to a body. But, HE DID IT!!! His work is spectacular and his staff are great support. The facility is clean, the staff are professional yet personable and Dr. Goodwin makes you feel comfortable at such a vulnerable time. Standing by my best friend and seeing her light up when her new body was revealed was priceless."- J.S. / Yelp / Oct 22, 2020
"I absolutely love Inspire Aesthetics. I live in London and come back here for my botox, Katie is so nice and informative. They educated me through my first time getting botox and now guide me as I continue to use it and what areas to focus on. Highly recommend and especially if you are new to botox, they will make you feel so comfortable and guide you on what they think is best for you. Quality service at a quality price."- M. / Google / Oct 21, 2020
"From the minute I walked out of the gorgeous facilities at Inspire, I've been meaning to gush about how great they are but I'm finally doing it now. Chris, who's a nurse practitioner, administered my cosmetic procedures and I absolutely love the results! As others have noted, he's very honest and doesn't oversell - in fact -both him and Erika at the front desk wrote up different options showing a lower-priced vs a higher-priced choice. As for aesthetics, he has an artist's eye and strives to maintain the balance of a face to create a beautiful, natural-looking result, rather than some of the rather, shall we say, plumped-up ladies you see waltzing around SE Florida 😏. He took his time with me and even let the session run over it's time due to my indecision. To sum up, I've been to a handful of Dr. Offices /medspas before and have never come close to experiencing the comfort level, integrity, and wonderful results of Chris at Inspire!"- R. / Google / Oct 20, 2020
Usually, a breast revision surgery is performed for:
- Medical conditions
- Cosmetic reasons
- Implant exchange or change in size
- Position of the implant has changed
We will provide you with a thorough consultation in our office, review your medical history, perform an examination, and possibly order an MRI imaging of the breast to determine if an implant has ruptured.
What to Expect
During your consultation, your surgeon will listen to your concerns and cosmetic goals before making recommendations for a specific treatment plan. Since each implant revision surgery is unique, the surgical technique and length of surgery and recovery will vary. You should expect a longer recovery time for multiple or extensive revision surgeries that involve removing scar tissue or removing loose skin. A revision that replaces a breast implant usually allows for the shortest recovery period. If you suspect your breast implant has ruptured, please seek medical attention immediately.
- Implant ruptures
Ruptures are rare and require revision surgery. A ruptured saline implant may appear to be deflated and flattened, but the saline is safely absorbed by the body. When a silicone implant ruptures, the gel doesn't move. There is an obvious difference in firmness and the shape of the breast. In most cases, the silicone is still contained within the implant and does not harm the body.
- Double Bubble
This deformity creates an unnatural indentation in the breast and looks like the implant has fallen out of position. Visually, the breasts will appear unattractively doubled underneath the crease. This usually occurs if the implants were not properly positioned during the augmentation surgery. It can also happen if there is too much scar tissue around the implant itself. Breast revision surgery is the only way to amend this situation as the situation will not correct itself. The surgeon may also use a surgical mesh to reinforce the implant and keep it from moving.
- Capsular Contracture
Scarring can cause a hardening of the breast, which occurs more often in saline implants. There is always a risk of scar tissue forming around the breast implant once it has settled into the chest, which shifts the implant out of place and hardens the breast. In this case, a surgeon would have to remove the scar tissue with a procedure called a capsulectomy.
- Breast Rippling
Breast rippling is a visible wrinkling beneath or on the side of the breast. This can often be seen under clothes. Rippling can happen with any augmentation patient and is most common with women who are thin and have very little muscle under the breast. Saline implants cause rippling more than silicone implants. While this complication is not a health risk, it does lead to unattractive, wrinkly breasts.
