Counter the Effects of Age & Weight Loss

Age and weight loss can have profound effects on the upper body. As we age, the skin loses elasticity, and the muscles may weaken, leading to sagging and a loss of definition. This can be accelerated by sun exposure and genetics, resulting in wrinkles, loose skin, and a less toned upper body. Moreover, significant weight loss, whether through diet and exercise or bariatric surgery, can also lead to excess skin and tissue, particularly in the chest and upper arms. An upper body lift can counter these effects, helping you maintain a taut, contoured look.

About Upper Body Lift Surgery

An upper body lift is a cosmetic procedure to enhance the appearance and contours of the upper body, including the chest, arms, and back. Our plastic surgeons tailor the surgery to each patient’s specific concerns and goals. Common components of an upper body lift may include a breast lift to tighten the chest, an arm lift (brachioplasty) to address loose upper arm skin, or a back lift to remove excess skin and improve overall upper body definition.

The upper body lift combines various techniques to achieve a harmonious and balanced upper body appearance. It involves the removal of excess skin and fat, as well as muscle tightening when necessary, to restore a more youthful and toned look. Patients who undergo upper body lift surgery often report improved aesthetics and increased comfort in their daily lives. At Inspire Aesthetics, our skilled plastic surgeons are dedicated to providing personalized upper body lift solutions to help you achieve your desired look.

Upper Body Lift: What to Expect

An upper body lift is typically performed under general anesthesia at our AAAASF-certified surgical centers. The surgeon will make strategic incisions in targeted areas, such as the chest, back, or upper arm, to trim away excess skin. The incisions are made along the natural creases of your skin or in other discreet locations to minimize scar visibility. The duration generally ranges from 3 to 5 hours, following which you can have someone drive you home after a brief observation period.

Your Upper Body Lift Recovery Process

After your upper body lift, you may experience some discomfort, swelling, and bruising, which are normal and can be managed with prescribed medications and proper rest. It’s important to follow your surgeon’s post-operative instructions, which may include wearing compression garments to minimize swelling and support healing. You should gradually resume light activities as directed by your surgeon to avoid any strain on your healing upper body.

While individual recovery times vary, most patients can expect to return to their regular routines within a week. Strenuous activities and heavy lifting should be avoided for four to six weeks to ensure optimal healing. Your surgeon will schedule follow-up appointments to assess your progress and provide guidance throughout your recovery. As your body continues to heal, you will notice gradual improvements in the appearance and contour of your upper body. It can take several months for the final results to become evident.
