The Effects of Gravity & Age on Breasts
As women age, their breasts can undergo significant changes due to the dual influences of gravity and the natural aging process. Over time, the skin and supportive tissues lose elasticity, causing breasts to sag or lose their youthful perkiness. Gravity constantly pulls breast tissue downward, while a decrease in collagen and elastin leads to a loss of firmness. These factors can result in changes in breast shape and position. If these changes affect your self-esteem, you can consider breast lift procedures to restore a more youthful appearance.

About Breast Lift Surgery
A breast lift is a surgical procedure to address the effects of sagging and loss of breast firmness. During this cosmetic surgery, excess skin is removed, the breast tissue is reshaped, and the nipples are repositioned to achieve a more youthful and elevated appearance. This procedure improves breast aesthetics and enhances self-confidence and body contour. It is a popular choice for women seeking to rejuvenate and lift their breasts.
Also known as a mastopexy, a breast lift in Delray Beach or Fort Lauderdale can reverse the signs of aging in your breast skin from losing a significant amount of weight, breastfeeding, baby weight gain, downward-pointing nipples, or just skin laxity. Restoring the suppleness and firmness of your breast tissue is an invasive procedure we can perform on an outpatient basis to help you reach your aesthetic goals, look younger, and love your feminine bustline again.
Breast Lift Treats:
- Decreased breast volume
- Altered breast shape
- Pendulous breasts
- Asymmetrical breasts
- Large or stretched areolas
- Downward pointing nipples
Your Breast Lift Consultation
During your breast lift consultation, you will receive a thorough assessment where the surgeon will evaluate your current breast size and shape by taking measurements. Your surgeon may also assess the breast symmetry, skin elasticity, and bone structure during your consultation. After a thorough evaluation, the surgeon will identify the appropriate location for incisions based on the current size and elasticity of your breasts.
There are three primary incision types used in breast lift procedures: the periareolar incision (around the areola), the vertical or lollipop incision (around the areola and vertically down to the breast crease), and the anchor incision (along the areola, vertically down to the breast crease, and horizontally along the crease). The choice of incision depends on the degree of correction needed and the surgeon’s preference.
During your consultation for a breast lift in Fort Lauderdale or Delray Beach, we are also happy to help you learn more about the differences between a breast lift and breast augmentation and give our opinion on which procedure is best for your goals. Generally, a breast lift can make your breasts look tight and more uplifted, and a breast augmentation can improve the shape and size. Some patients may have a breast augmentation combined with a breast lift to get a fuller and perkier bust.
Best Candidates
The ideal candidates for a breast lift procedure are typically women who experience sagging or drooping breasts due to factors like pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, or aging. Candidates should be in good overall health, have realistic expectations, and understand that a breast lift primarily addresses breast position and firmness, not size. If you’re concerned about breast size, you can consider breast augmentation. Our plastic surgeons will discuss your goals and determine if you’re a suitable candidate for a breast lift.
Testimonials
Why Our Patients Love Us
See More Reviews”After my first consultation, I decided to move forward with both a lift and implants and I’m so glad I did. Dr. Crane was able to give me the size I wanted, while also considering what my body shape could naturally support. After only a week and a half post surgery, I can barely see the incisions! Dr. Crane is truly an artist. Erika was also incredible and always readily available. Thanks, Inspire!

Your Breast Lift Recovery Process
Following surgery, you can expect some swelling, bruising, and discomfort, which can be managed with prescribed medications. You will be wrapped in a sterile surgical dressing and a medical compression bra. We recommend you wear something comfortable since your chest will be swollen and sore for approximately 1 to 2 weeks. All patients are advised to take it easy the first 2 to 3 weeks after surgery and avoid physical activities.
A full recovery can take 6 to 8 weeks. You will be given instructions on how to care for your surgical wounds during your recovery to speed your healing and minimize the appearance of scars, but all patients will have some scarring. The final results of your breast lift in Fort Lauderdale or Delray Beach will become apparent as the breasts settle into their new position and shape, which may take a few months. Please call our office immediately if you have any questions or concerns during your recovery.
Breast Lift FAQs
Does a breast lift increase breast size?
A breast lift primarily addresses breast position and firmness, not size. However, some women choose to combine a breast lift with breast augmentation if they desire both lift and volume.
Is a breast lift a painful procedure?
Patients may experience some discomfort following the surgery, which can be managed with prescribed pain medications. Discomfort usually subsides within a few days to a week.
How long is the recovery period after a breast lift?
Recovery time varies from person to person, but most patients can expect to return to light activities within a week and resume more strenuous activities after four to six weeks. Complete healing may take several months.
Can I breastfeed after a breast lift?
Whether your breast lift surgery affects your ability to breastfeed depends on the surgical techniques. Procedures that reposition the nipples may affect breastfeeding. However, you discuss your desire to breastfeed with your surgeon to curate a surgical plan that can preserve your ability to breastfeed.
Can a breast lift be combined with other procedures?
Yes, a breast lift can be combined with other procedures, such as breast augmentation (to increase breast size) or breast reduction (to reduce breast size). Combining multiple breast procedures can address multiple concerns in a single surgery.
