About Chin Augmentation
Augmentation of your chin can have an impressive impact on your facial appearance and profile. A chin augmentation, also known as mentoplasty or genioplasty, is an invasive cosmetic surgery that focuses on cosmetic issues of the chin and jawline, such as a weak chin. At Inspire Aesthetics, our patients considering chin augmentation will have a private consultation with one of our plastic surgeons to discover the right course of action on how to augment the chin, such as implementing a synthetic chin implant or decreasing the impact of hanging skin at the jowls. We have several different techniques available and can combine this procedure with other cosmetic surgeries. Our talented plastic surgeons in Fort Lauderdale and Delray Beach, FL can provide you with an excellent result in redefining the contours and balancing your facial features.
Chin Augmentation Reviews
"Male - Neck Lipo (No thermi) Happy With Results From Dr. Goodwin - Since high school I had a prominent pouch of fat under my chin. It did not really get worse or better with weight gain or loss. Last year, when I began talking to Dr's about possibly correcting this problem, one Dr. told me I needed to have neck and lower face lift ($13,000). The same Dr. gave me a 7K quote on doing my eyes ( I had not asked him about my eyes). Dr. G and 3 other Dr.s said that since my skin was tight, a face lift was not recommended. I brought up the idea of having a chin implant with Dr. G, but he disagreed, and said he thought I would do fine with just neck lipo. He was not my cheapest option, but he's a confident, plainspoken man. I feel lucky that I found him and made the choice to have him do the surgery."- Anonymous / Vitals / Jan 30, 2019
"Very happy with the result! I did a chin augmentation and could not be happier with the outcome. It is a slight, yet significant change in my appearance. Dr. Schnitt is knowledgeable, skilled and very honest. He will not try to do unnecessary procedures to make money, but rather recommend what is really needed in your case. He takes all the time in the world to answer questions. I have been in a total about 6 times including the surgery for pre-ops and post-ops, and it has always been a breeze to get in and out. His staff is also friendly and extremely helpful - available to answer questions quickly on email, phone or SMS. I rarely leave reviews, but felt the need to tell my experience at Inspire Cosmetic. As a guy it was a bit hard mentally to get this done, but the staff made me feel very comfortable about my decision. Thank you so much guys!"- D.G. / Yelp / Feb 26, 2020
Good candidates for chin augmentation surgery are men and women who may experience:
- A recessed chin
- A lack of definition in the jawline
- A weak profile due to poor chin structure
- Loose skin at the lower half of the face near the mouth
- Facial imbalance
What to Expect
During the consultation, the plastic surgeon will evaluate your chin to see how it fits in relation to the face and neck, as well as the position of the teeth. In some patients, a severe overbite (lower teeth behind the upper teeth) may be present and the chin's position may be a reflection of an overall shorter lower jaw. In these patients, other treatment options may be considered, including jaw surgery. In some cases, an X-ray of a patient's profile may be useful to look at both the facial profile and the bone structure for treatment planning. For patients who need a chin implant only, the implant is positioned over the bone, below the lips in a pocket that is created to hold the prosthesis in place. Scarring is usually not evident since the incisions are placed under the chin or within the lower lip. Liposuction of the chin and/or neck may be incorporated to help achieve a more defined jawline.
Following chin augmentation surgery, patients will have variations in the healing process based on their individual surgery. For those receiving an implant, there will be much less downtime. For those undergoing genioplasty, the recovery will be longer as the jaw, bone, and teeth have been manipulated which will need additional recovery time. All patients, no matter their procedure route, should expect some bruising and swelling following their procedure. Patients may be given a chinstrap to help control the swelling and to help tissue adapt to the implant or new bone placement. Swelling usually subsides after 7 – 10 days, but this varies among patients.
